Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), commonly referred to as artificial insemination, involves carefully placing a prepared sperm sample from either the male partner or a donor into the uterine cavity through the cervix (the neck of the womb), typically just before ovulation.

The objective of IUI is to facilitate the sperm’s journey to the fallopian tube, where it can fertilize an awaiting egg, thus initiating the process of conception. Depending on the underlying causes of infertility, the procedure may be timed with the woman’s natural cycle or combined with fertility medications to enhance its effectiveness.
