Hysteroscopy is a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure designed to examine the inner lining of the uterus using a slender, telescope-like device called a hysteroscope. During the procedure, the hysteroscope is gently inserted through the cervix and into the uterus, allowing the surgeon to visualize the uterine cavity on a monitor. This provides valuable insights into any abnormalities present, including issues with the uterus’s shape, lining, or potential blockages.

To ensure optimal clarity during the procedure, a local anesthetic block is administered to the cervix for pain relief. Additionally, a solution containing sugar or salt is introduced to the uterus, facilitating better visualization by distending its walls. 

Once the uterine cavity is clearly visible, the surgeon may proceed to address any identified conditions, such as polyps, fibroids, or heavy menstrual bleeding, using specialized instruments. This aspect of the procedure allows for both diagnosis and potential treatment in the same session, minimizing the need for additional interventions.
